Reviews:

The name Hyboria and its subtitle "Conan the Conqueror" come from Robert E. Howard's novels about Conan the Barbarian set in the Hyborian Age. Although there was no official licence attached to the game it provided inspiration for the developers and could possibly have been arranged had the game been published. If not then the name would have been changed.

Hyboria is set in a fantasy land of large swords, even larger warriors and scantily-clad maidens. This is, of course, a popular setting in Amiga games and in Hyboria's case allows for lots of monsters to be bashed. This would have been one of the major aspects in the full game.

Also, although there is only an early beta demo available to us the first room demonstrates some of the adventure elements likely to be present throughout. Conan is imprisoned in a cell but obtains a key from a friendly person and uses it to open a second door and escape.

The graphics are perhaps Hyboria's strongest point and have a very polished look to them. This all adds up to a graphically strong arcade adventure which showed great promise.
